Beloved husband of Phyllis Volkert (nee Cook); cherished father of Jan (David) Werth, Bruce (Marianne) Volkert, Peter Volkert, Becky (Shawn) Berg and Tim (Ann) Volkert; dearest Grandpa of Kaitlin (Bill), Sarah (Adam), Daniel, Taylor, Trevor, Austin, Kaleb, McKenna, Amanda, Kalob, Josh, Jayden, Aliyah, DeAnna, and Christian and great-grandfather of Ellie, Julian and Kaesyn; predeceased by his parents Otto (Irmgard) Volkert; loving brother of Otto (Betty) Volkert and Marie (late Joe) Volkert Parsons; also survived by nieces, nephews and many loving family. Family will receive friends on Saturday, September 21st from 10 - 11 AM at First Trinity Lutheran Church, 1570 Niagara Falls Blvd. Tonawanda, NY 15210, where a Celebration Of Life with military honors will be held at 11 AM. Flowers gratefully declined, memorial contributions may be made to Trinity First Lutheran School- Minneapolis, MN and/or Orphan Grain Train- Norfolk, NE. Rev. Robert was born on April 27, 1936 in Minneapolis, MN. He was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Minneapolis, MN. Rev. Robert and his wife Phyllis were united in marriage on August 15, 1959 at Trinity First Lutheran Church in Minneapolis. He studied at the University of Minnesota, Dunwoody Institute and Concordia Theological Seminary in Springfield, IL. Rev. Robert worked at Magnetic Controls and served in the United States Air National Guard before becoming a pastor. Rev. Robert Volkert served as a pastor for Zion Lutheran Church- Grant Park, IL, Grace Lutheran Church- Hamburg, NY, Hill City Lutheran Church- Hill City, MN and Vacancy Pastor at Salem Lutheran Church- Buffalo, NY. Besides telling people about Jesus, Bob loved fishing, his Scott Atwater motor, watching anything about history, playing the piano and being with his family. Bob was also an avid Minnesota sports fan. Funeral arrangements entrusted to LOOMIS, OFFERS & LOOMIS INC. FUNERAL HOME (Hamburg Chapel). “Well done, thou good and faithful servant.” - Matthew 25:21

Trinity Lutheran Church members in Hill City send our sympathy to all of you. Pastor Volkert's humor and gregariousness is sadly missed by the whole Hill City community but we are thankful to have had him with us as long as he and Phyllis were here.
