DAVID JAMES PURCELL
January 11, 1943 - March 25, 2026
David went to be with our lord on March 25, 2026 at the age of 83 following a brief illness. David was born at home in Buffalo. He was the youngest of fifteen children of the late Patrick and Sarah (Merrick) Purcell. He is survived by his beloved wife Grace.
He was a loving stepfather to Joseph LoBuglio, Jacquline LoBuglio, and Juliana LoBuglio-Traxler. He is also survived by 8 Grandchildren and 12 Great Grandchildren. He is the brother of his late siblings Mary (Raymond) Deibel, Helen Purcell, Patrick (Doris) Purcell, Virginia (Charles) Barrett, Theresa (Leon) Long, Eugene Purcell, Robert Purcell, Agnes (William) Tudor, Joseph Purcell, Charles Purcell, Elizabeth Lenahan, Sarah Purcell, Regina (Donald) Roberts and
Michael Purcell. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
After David graduated high school he proudly served his country by joining the U.S. Navy. He served aboard the USS Intrepid. He was very proud of his Irish heritage. He was a lifelong fan of Notre Dame football, as well as the Boston Celtics basketball. He also enjoyed watching the Buffalo Bills, baseball and golf. He enjoyed going to the casino and was usually pretty
lucky. After moving to California he and Grace would always come back to Buffalo in July for the family picnic, and to see family and friends.
A funeral visitation will be held on Friday, July 3rd from 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM at Loomis, Offers, & Loomis Inc. Funeral Home (Memorial Chapel) 1820 Seneca Street Buffalo, NY 14210, where a service will be held at 12:00 PM. There will be a Celebration of Life luncheon
immediately afterwards at The Buffalo Irish Center 245 Abbott Road.
Internment will be at the Holy Cross Cemetery on Monday, July 6th at 11:00 am. Please meet at the office of Holy Cross Cemetery if you wish to attend.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Babcock Boys Club.
Rest in Peace my friend,
Dave was like our ( Bar Stool Professor ) during our younger years hanging at DD Hartford's. He gave us his knowledge of life and Seneca St smarts with plenty of laughs. Dave will be missed by all who lives he touched. Grace and all his Family sorry for your loss. Terry Lewis

In his “younger days”, he shared his crazy fun side.
In his “middle days”, he shared his strong, resilient, loving, and dedicated-to-family side. (Much of course due to his long and loving relationship with our awesome Aunt Grace).
In his “older days”, he shared his wise, gentle, and kind side.
And throughout his days, he shared his extensive knowledge and experiences, his great sense of humor, his funny stories, his contagious laughter, and his love.
