Mary Anne Obenshain October 18, 1928 – August 8, 2024

Mary Anne (nee Michie) Obenshain, 95, of Hamburg, passed away peacefully on August 8th 2024.

Mary Anne was born in Chicago, IL, on October 18, 1928, to the late George and Jeannie Michie.

A 1946 graduate of Hamburg High School, she earned an Associate’s Degree in travel industry from Stephens College of Columbia, MO in 1949. Following college, Mary Anne worked as a ticket agent at American Airlines in Hartford, CT and then moving back to Buffalo to work at the American Airlines ticket office at the Statler Hilton in downtown Buffalo.


Mary Anne was married to the late Boyd Obenshain; she is survived by her daughter, Donna (David) Caldwell of Orlando, FL and her son, Scott (Kristin) of Hamburg; 6 grandchildren, Alison (Andrew) Spencer, Megan (Brian) Glover, Jamison (Ashley) Spencer, Brian Obenshain, Amanda (Robert) Koshinski, Melissa (Greg) Kales, and two great grandchildren, Carter and Colton Koshinski. She is also survived by her twin brother, George Michie, Jr. of Ashville, NC and sister, Jean (Hicks) of Nashville, TN, and many nieces and nephews.​ ​​​​


After the birth of her children, Mary Anne was a travel agent at O’Brien Travel Agency in Hamburg for over 20 years. In 1984 she moved to Phoenix, AZ, where she worked at Carlson Travel before retiring in 1986. She returned to her beloved Hamburg in 1997, where she lived out the rest of her life.


An avid bridge player, crossword puzzle whiz and a passionate Buffalo sports fan, Mary Anne cherished her grandchildren and adored her great grandchildren.​​​


Calling hours will be Friday, October 18th from 5-8 PM (Mary Anne’s birthday) at LOOMIS, OFFERS & LOOMIS INC. FUNERAL HOME (Hamburg Chapel) 207 Main Street. A Celebration of Life will take place at Hamburg Presbyterian Church, 177 Main St. on Saturday, October 19th at 10:00 am, followed by a reception at the Hamburg Brewery. Inurnment will be at Hillcrest Cemetery.
