Marian "Pokey" Hartl, aged 88, passed away peacefully in her sleep on January 13, 2025. Born in Buffalo, NY, Marian was an avid puzzler, painter, child advocate, and card maker. She was a proud member of the Buffalo Academy of the Sacred Heart Sports Hall of Fame where her prowess as a basketball player was recognized. Her life was characterized by her dedication to numerous causes, including Covenant House, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, and Easter Seals, where she served as a devoted volunteer. Marian found her greatest joy in motherhood and being surrounded by children. She was the proud mother of Bob(Lynnmarie), Michael, Nikolina (Eugene), Marian (Paul), Mary Beth (Jim), and Theresa. Her legacy includes nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews who will cherish her memory.
Marian is now united with her beloved husband, Bob "Butch" Hartl. She was predeceased by her parents, Helen and Fred, her sisters Nancy and Mary (Dick), and her brothers Fred (Rose) and George (Carolyn). She is survived by her sisters Jessie and Fran, her brother Richard and her sister-in-law Joan Billittier.
Relatives and friends are invited to a memorial service at SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church, located at 66 E. Main St., Hamburg, NY 14075, on Saturday, January 25 at 12 Noon. In lieu of flowers, a donation in Marian’s name to St Jude’s Children’s hospital would be greatly appreciated. St Jude’s was always near and dear to her heart. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Loomis, Offers & Loomis, Inc. Hamburg Chapel.
