DUGGAN- Daniel J.
Duggan, Daniel J. age 68, of Hamburg, NY, passed on September 12, 2026. Dan was born to
James and Alice “Mickey” (Galligan) Duggan. Dan is survived by his wife of 44 years, Mary Jo
(Mumbach) Duggan, his children, Liam (Erinn), John, and Emma, grandchildren Ambria,Jude,
Finn, Rory and siblings James (Pamela) Duggan, Michael (Kathy) Duggan, Mary and (Richard)
Bartolotta, Kathy (Dominic) Shields and Kevin Duggan, Lee Ann Mumbach, Christopher
Mumbach, Joseph (Kimberly) Mumbach, Luke Mumbach, Martha Mumbach, Jenny Carrig,
Jennifer (Patrick) Reagan, Sarah (Justin) Takas and Mother in Law, RoseAnn Mumbach. Loving
legend to 39 nieces/nephews, 22 great nieces/nephews. Dan is preceded by his son, Darius
Duggan, his father, James Duggan, father-in-law, John Mumbach, and brother-in-law, Benjamin
Mumbach.
Dan was a loyal member of the Benderson Development team for 44 years. He volunteered with Meals on Wheels, Hamburg Music Festival, and was a proud member of the Buffalo Ski Center Ski Patrol team. Dan loved Birthdays, The Bills, and his bride.
Dan, aka Duggan, Danny, Brother, Dan-O, Dan the Man, Daniel, Dan Tourist NY, Double D,
Danielson, Silver Stallion, Papa, Uncle Dan, and everyone’s Danny Boy, was a jokester,
schemer, seeker of adventures, lover of music and merriment.
Every “Hello Dan, Good to see you” was met with a “Good to Be Seen.” With that twinkle in his
eye and mischievous grin, Dan loved to tell tales, often crying tears of laughter as he tried to get
the full story out. Telling tales brought him pure joy, as he reveled in surviving to tell about it.
“Why ruin a good story with facts.”
Dan always shined a bit brighter after passing time with his folks on the porch on Prospect. And
he showed up. You might not want him there during an emergency (usually he was the
emergency!), but when life was hard, he could always be counted on to show up with open arms
or a call, not a text, to say, “Hey, I’m here.”
At social events, Dan would greet you with your given nickname, a clink of his Yuengling, and a
sly smile, serving as a reminder that wherever you were, it was to be enjoyed and appreciated.
At local live music events you could find Dan facing the band, beer in one hand, the other in his
jeans pocket, possibly a foot tapping, and almost cherubic smile on his face, nodding in time to
the music, or shaking side to side in pleasing disbelief at how good it was.
According to Dan, skiing conditions were always good and there was never a bad sunset.
Every day was a good day to ride a dirt bike, read a Dr. Seuss book or cut the lawn with a little
friend on the tractor.
Dan was the original Mumbach outlaw and imparted his Irish wisdom by teaching those who
came after him, “You know, it’s ok to leave when you are ready to go.”
Even after 50 years Dan didn't just love Mary Jo. Dan was in love with Mary Jo. He always had
her back. We all loved your love.
Dan’s greatest strength was his love. Darius was fueled by that love 25 years ago when he
saved Dan’s life. We can see Dan’s commitment to and love of his family reflected in Liam’s joy
as he walks through life as a father and husband. Jack carries Dan’s sense of grounded
wonderment as he travels the world yet returns home to Taylor Road to throw a record on,
nestle fireside and take in a sunset with family. When his best girl, Emma, is providing
commentary on life, you are bound to hear the echo of Dan’s wit. What a beautiful soundtrack
his life has been.
Sit together on the porch. Eat some cherry pie. Treat a kid to ice cream. Watch the sun set.
Pull a chair up to the fire. Tell your tales and sing your songs until we are all together again.

I was so sorry to hear of Dan's passing. I've worked with him at Benderson Development for over 30 years and he was a mainstay at the company. He had a tough, no nonsense vibe but after correcting you, you could see that mischievous smile grow on his face as he turned to walk away. His absence will be felt by many people for years to come. Please accept my sincere condolences and know that his effect on those around him was a real blessing - I am grateful that we crossed paths. Julie C.
